About the Artist

While I love impressionist work I would classify my style as 'observational painting.' I have found through steady practice that painting from real life is the richest and most fulfilling way to paint.
Ella Jane Niederhauser is an American oil painter with a love of painting seascapes and sailboats. The more patriotic the better. Ella works mostly outside on the go from real life. She loves painting places that are familiar to her and capturing the fleeting light and essence of being there. This is achieved by her ability to paint quickly and variety of loose brush strokes.
Ella attended the drawing and painting program at Utah State University where she first learned the techniques of oil painting. She instantly fell in love with painting and oils specifically. Ella valued her time at Utah State and attributes acquiring her painting knowledge to her practice there. Since graduating in the spring of 2023 she has taken up traveling up and down the coast of Southern California to different beaches and harbors where she can capture reflections in the water and the impression of being present.
