About Ella Jane

Ella is an observational painter best known for her seascapes, house portraits, and landscapes which she paints 'en plein air.' After studying drawing and painting at Utah State University she has developed a skill and love for packing up her easel and setting up anywhere she finds the right moment to capture.

Light is the defining element of her paintings. From the heat of the afternoon to evening's orange glow, Ella strives to preserve the subtle nuances of light that transforms ordinary and mundane scenes into something remarkable. It's not just the light alone that makes her paintings come alive but light coupled with everyday landscapes and scenes that she comes across. Inspiration for Ella can be found in simple moments and ordianry places or objects that are commonly overlooked or only given a glance by passersby. Ella has found spending a few hours studying the same piece of landscape or the same segment of rushing water brings her closer to God and understanding His creations. The world moves so fast that pausing and being focused on one spot gives her a different perspective on the world.

"There's just no better feeling than getting outside and capturing the sunlight on the water or through the trees. It's good lighting, I think, that makes a painting feel real and believable. I enjoy painting flowers and nice, welcoming landscapes but my favorite subject to paint is random stuff I come across. From tractors and barns to people's interesting exterior decor. I love finding creative ways to make these rusty and forgotten objects become beautiful and interesting."
